Elijah Hunt Rhodes was a Union soldier from Rhode Island who fought in the American Civil War. He was born on May 21, 1842, in Pawtuxet, Rhode Island. Rhodes enlisted in the Union Army in 1861 at the age of 19 and served throughout the war, rising to the rank of major.

Rhodes kept a detailed diary throughout his time in the war, documenting his experiences and observations. His diary provides a valuable firsthand account of the Civil War, giving insight into the everyday life of a soldier, as well as major battles and events.

After the war, Rhodes returned to Rhode Island and worked as a successful businessman. He died on January 14, 1917, at the age of 74.
